VOLUNTEER

ARE YOU INTERESTED IN SERVING OUR PUBLIC LANDS?

Consider joining the Taylor-Tallac volunteer program! We offer local and RV volunteer positions, spent working along the Tahoe shoreline. Volunteers restore trails and buildings, serve the public in the museum and visitor center, give tours and much more. Our volunteers are crucial to sustainability and stewardship!

The Great Basin Institute and Forest Service jointly recruit and manage the volunteer workforce. In typical season, more than 50 volunteers work with us, serving more than 100 hours each.

HOW IT WORKS

Recruitment

Volunteers are actively recruited in the off season (Nov-Mar.) for the next season. To apply, or express interest, please:

  • Complete an interest form online
  • Complete an application through www.volunteer.gov
  • Complete an interest form in-person at one of our sites

We do not recruit new volunteers May – Oct. If you submit an interest form or application then, you will be contacted in November. We also have two types of positions: RV or Tahoe local volunteer.

After submitting an application, staff will contact you to schedule an interview during the recruitment months. These are held virtually.

If both parties agree the opportunity is a good fit, you will complete pre-arrival paperwork and training. All other onboarding occurs on site.

Volunteers are recruited to complete a 10-week work contract, during which an RV campsite will be provided at no cost to the volunteer. Two campgrounds are available, both within a short walking distance to Lake Tahoe and a 15-minute drive to the city of South Lake Tahoe. In exchange, RV volunteers provide 4 days/week of service to the Tallac Historic Site and/or Taylor Creek Visitor Center, totaling 28 hours per week.
